Who sells dbplex
Polar is the merchant of record. Polar takes your payment, handles sales tax and sends your receipts.
Trial
You can use every feature free for 7 days, with no card and no account. Each Mac gets one trial. When it ends, the app locks until you enter a key. It locks on the end date even with no internet connection.
Plans
- Monthly: $12.99 a month, with all updates while you pay. The app locks when you stop paying.
- License: $79.99 with 1 year of updates. Renew with no gap and year 2 is $59.99, then $39.99 a year. The app keeps working if you stop renewing.
- Lifetime: $99 once, for the first 100 buyers. Updates forever.
- Teams: the seats and the price are agreed by email, and the key works on one Mac per seat. A team license gets 1 year of updates, and renews by email.
Up to 3 Macs can use a license, unless a team license says otherwise, and you can change which ones at your account.
Lifetime licenses include hot patch builds: if you tell us about a problem in dbplex, we aim to fix it and publish a patch within days.
Automatic renewal
Automatic renewal is off unless you tick it when you buy a license or turn it on later at your account. It charges your card once a year for another year of updates: $59.99 for year 2, then $39.99 a year. We email you before each charge. You can turn it off at any time at your account, and no further charge is made.
The lower prices are for renewing with no gap, by hand or automatically. If your updates end and you have not renewed, the next year is $79.99 again, then $59.99 and $39.99. A charge that fails is retried by Polar and does not count as a gap unless the renewal ends.
When the app works and when it locks
- During the trial, everything works. When it ends, the app locks.
- On a license, the app keeps working after your updates end, whether you stopped renewing or a renewal charge failed. You keep the version you have, and newer versions need a renewal: you can install a version released after your updates end, but it asks you to renew before you can use it.
- On lifetime, everything works forever, with updates.
- On monthly, everything works while you are paying. If you cancel, everything works until the paid month ends, then the app locks.
- If a monthly charge fails, everything works for 7 days from the failure, then the app locks. It unlocks by itself if a retry succeeds. Polar retries for up to 21 days.
- On monthly, the app has to reach our license server to confirm your plan. If it has not been able to by 3 days after your paid month ends, the app locks until it can, even if you are still paying. Nothing is deleted, and your copies stay stopped until you start them.
- If a purchase is refunded, the app locks. If only a renewal is refunded, that year of updates is taken back: a version released during that year asks you to renew before you can use it, and older versions keep working.
Keeping up with providers
dbplex depends on the services it copies from. An old version can stop pulling when a provider changes something, and fixing that takes an update. A license does not promise that an old version keeps working with every provider.
What locked means
A locked app shows a screen for your key and a list of your copies, with Delete. Running copies stop, pulls in progress are cancelled, and scheduled backups pause with their settings kept. Your data stays on your Mac. Paying again brings everything back, and your copies stay stopped until you start them.
Refunds
All payments are final and we do not offer refunds. Your rights under the law are not affected. Polar, which handles payment, may refund a purchase within 60 days at its own discretion, and a refunded license locks.
Database software and your data
dbplex does not bundle or redistribute database software. It is a tool that downloads each database engine from its vendor or source onto your Mac, or pulls the vendor's image into your Docker. You then run that software under the vendor's terms.
You are responsible for complying with the license of each engine you run. Those terms differ from vendor to vendor, they can change, and some limit how the software can be used, so read them for the engines you use. We cannot tell you that a given use meets a vendor's license. They include:
- PostgreSQL, under its own license.
- MySQL Community, under GPLv2.
- libSQL, under its own license.
The same applies to any other engine dbplex can run, whether or not it is named here.
You are responsible for having the right to copy your production data to your own machine, and for how you handle it there, including under privacy law.
dbplex is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these vendors. Their names and logos belong to their owners.
