A Neosync alternative, now that Neosync is archived

Grow Therapy acquired Neosync in September 2025, and the open source repository is no longer maintained. If you used it to get masked production data into development, dbplex does that for each developer: it copies production to your Mac, masks personal columns on the way in, and gives the copy a localhost URL.

Which one fits

Neosync was a pipeline for teams: it anonymised and synced data into staging and CI. dbplex is a desktop app that gives each developer a masked copy on their own Mac.

Pick Neosync if

  • You need one shared, server-run pipeline that fills staging and CI for the whole team.
  • You need synthetic data generated from scratch.
  • You need subsets defined by any SQL query.

Pick dbplex if

  • You want a maintained tool rather than an archived one.
  • You want masked data on your own Mac without running Docker Compose or Kubernetes.
  • Your database is one of 12 engines, including Supabase, Firestore and Redis.
  • Your AI agent should work on that copy through MCP.
